Welcome to Birmingham, England

Birmingham, is the country's second largest city and is home to just over 1,000,000 people. It is located in the Midlands area of the country and is around 100 miles North of the capital, London. Excellent road and rail links exist between Birmingham and London and between the city and all major UK cities. Birmingham also has its own airport, called Birmingham International Airport, which is located South East of the City, in the Solihull area.

Birmingham's fortunes were built during the Industrial Revolution. Now Birmingham has reinvented itself and it is now a cultural and commercial centre that dominates the Midlands area of the UK. It is also important in the arts, media and entertainment industries and is home to a number of world famous sporting venues such as Edgbaston (Cricket).

People from Birmingham are affectionately known as Brummies and the area has its own distinctive accent. Birmingham has been home to many famous personalities, including Black Sabbath musician Ozzy Osbourne, Noddy Holder from the group Slade and award winning actress Julie Walters.

There are a great many attractions in the city of interest to tourists and locals alike, including Cadbury World in Bournville, this is a chocolate themed visitor attraction run by confectionery manufacturers, Cadburys and the National Sea Life Centre. This is an attraction that has a great variety of freshwater and marine life and is located in Brindleyplace. No trip to Birmingham would be complete without a visit to the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The museum includes an amazing art collection and is located in the centre of the city. There are many great things to see and do in Birmingham and with so much going on there is bound to be something for everyone.
